Loughlin Bowe Antique & Fine Art Auction
Auction at ‘The Old Cinema’, Freshford, Co. Kilkenny on Sunday 1st October at 1pm

This interesting auction includes important items on the instructions of Mr Butler by decent from Ms Naomi Overend, Airfield House, Dundrum, Co Dublin and hence the Butlers of Ormonde, also for other important clients and executors, removed for convenience of sale to the Old Cinema, Freshford, Co. Kilkenny. The auction contains a broad selection of items and so it should be well worth the trip to view this auction and hopefully purchase at least one of the 400 lots on offer.
Amongst other items the paintings include a collection of 18th C portraits which were inherited by Mr Butler from Ms Naomi Overend of Airfield House, Dundrum, County Dublin, and which by repute trace their history back to the Butlers of Ormonde. Other artists represented include Harry Kernoff, John Ryan, John Dobbin, Elizabeth Brophy, George Campbell, Marie Carroll, Peit Sluis, Darren Paul, George McCullough, Odette Farrell, John Schwatschke, Liam Jones, M. Kavanagh, C. Cooper, G. Sheridan, S. Bulfin, M. Reynolds, Frank Wright, R. Wawro, Tom Keating.
Irish clocks include a regency mahogany longcase clock by Edward Hawkesworth, Cork est 3,000-4,000 and Henry Keenan, Lurgan 2,500-3,000. While a very fine inlaid mahogany George III longcased clock with a hand made eight day movement is estimated at 5,500-6,500. Two wall clocks which are of exhibition quality include a superb Victorian Vienna walnut wall clock which measures 4’9” high by 2’6” wide is estimated at 2,000-2,500 and an absolutely stunning 19 C boulle bracket clock complete with its’ original bracket , measures an impressive 5’2” by 1’10” wide and carries an estimate of 5,000-6,000
Furniture includes a very fine figured mahogany William IV four door bookcase est. 8,000-12,000. Also for the library and for the same period is a very fine mahogany library table est. 3,000-4,000 and a Victorian mahogany pedestal desk by Day & Son est. 1,400-1,800. A 19C inlaid mahogany bookcase is estimated at 2,500-3,500. Dining room furniture includes a large Victorian mahogany dining table 2,500-3,500, a Victorian mahogany dumbwaiter by Jones of Dublin est. 1,200-1,400, also a fine figured mahogany Irish Regency serving table est. 6,000-7,000 and a lovely quality 19C Irish hunt table. A very fine Georgian mahogany sideboard decorated with lions masks is estimated at 3,000-4,000, while a smaller pair of 19C inlaid mahogany sideboards are estimated at 800-1,200.
Hall furniture includes perhaps one of the finest 18C Georgian brass mounted mahogany blanket chests the auctioneers have seen for many years which is estimated at 1,600-1,800. Also for the hall area a pair of Irish Victorian carved mahogany hall chairs by Strahan of Dublin estimated at 1,200-1,400 and a Regency mahogany pair with the same estimate.
Drawing room furniture includes a fine Regency mahogany sofa table est. 3,300-3,700, of the same period and with the same estimate is a superb quality Regency rosewood davenport with sliding top. Also there is a William IV rosewood Canterbury and an Irish Georgian card table est 1,800-2,400. A superb Victorian figured walnut credenza with Sevres style porcelain plaque is est 5,500-6,500.
This auction also includes a rare miniature childs carriage est 1,500-1,700, also a large collection of 19th C Irish pine and provincial items and collectables. There is also a good selection of garden related items and fireplaces as well a large collection of rugs and carpets.
